A Short History of Edmer (1940-1982)
After sometime the school was taken over under American leadership and carried on in the “Mission House” by such leaders as: The Comms and the Weidermans.
During this same phase the school continued as the leadership changed from American to Jamaican, under West Indies Union with leaders such as The Newmans – Garfield and Syril.
Then came a period of rest and reorganization. The school was closed for a short period of time reorganization of the whole structure academically and physically.
Edmer emerges still under the leadership of West Indies Union Adventist Christian Education was re-established with a zest when Pastor A. Lyle with the aid of some of our most zealous church members erected a new school building on the site where the thatched hut had stood.
Within this six weeks (wonder) Adventist Christian Education took on a new meaning and greater dimensions as Mrs. J. Peace lead out in the educational programme. The torch was lighted its flames kept burning brightly by Mrs. Peace until it was passed on to the following principals in succession: Mr. C. Henry, Mr. R. Rose, Mr. Shand, who now holds it in his capable hands.
During the time of the Principals mentioned above the name Edmer Academy was given to the school in honour of Miss Clara Eden – Ed for Eden – and Mr. George Merren – Mer for Merren, two stalwart pillars of the S.D.A. Church. Some times during this phase the light of the torch has flickered dimly as the winds of adversity and trouble blew but it never went out and today it is burning very brightly.
New fuel has been obtained for the torch of Edmer, as the projection for a new school building becomes reality. On Walker’s Road, a new building rears its head skyward, which will be the new Edmer Academy. Pastor T.W. Thompson, with his team of workers, has worked faithfully to achieve this and his efforts are being rewarded.
The new fuel is about to be poured on the torch of Edmer and we visualize it burning forth in a great light, which will have an effect on all Grand Cayman, and other parts of the world as the students of Edmer go out into world to propagate Christian Education as they have been taught.
